Soufflé pearls are hollow. They are grown on an expanding nucleus which is then dissolved, leaving a large but hollow and lightweight pearl which tends to be baroque in shape but very lustrous. These are dyed. It may well be that no-one is actually growing them now. Even at their peak there were only one or two farms growing them
